Updated girly Bedroom

I've been tweaking some of the rooms around the house now that the big projects have been done.

Elsa's bedroom was really high on my list.  Her room is painted pink...but it's not just any pink, it is radioactive pink (well, that's not it's real name, but that's what I call it since the color glows down the hallway)

This is her room before

My goal was to calm down the pink, and I think I accomplished that.  I'm loving the brighter colors and vibrant tones.  I didn't spend any money on this project except for the $4.50 on the sample jar of paint for the shutters and frame.  I also changed out her lamp about 2 months ago for a raspberry shaded, prettier one.

I focused on bringing out the blues, greens and raspberry pink tones that were already in her quilt.

The colors don't match exactly, but I wasn't going for matchy-matchy, just complimenting tones.

Most of the fabrics in the hoops are Pop Garden by Heather Bailey.  I bought the fabric years ago to sew a dress for Elsa and then never got around to it.  I love textiles and the thought of sewing, but my intentions are always more focused than my actions.

This pillow is perfect example of why I don't sew often.  This was intended to be an 18x18" pillow cover for my sofa.  It turned out in this strange shape that I was thinking about tossing, but Elsa loves it since she helped me put it all together.  I just used stencils to put the E in the center.

The shutters turned out great.  I painted them in Valspars "Shaded Lake" and hung them horizontal on the wall.

Then I added the banner with scrap fabric I had hanging out in my stash.  I didn't hem any of them, but left the edges raw.  This was made with the leftover fabric from trimming off my Ikea curtains.
I save nearly everything that can be useful from projects I do.  Then when I get a wild hair I can act on it!

I hot glued the triangles onto a scrap piece of cotton grosgrain.

On the banner, I simply wrote words of affirmation for her in cursive with a gel ink pen.  It's not perfect, but I love the simple authenticity of it.

The frame was a clearance item I bought a year ago...I just painted it in blue.  Then I added a rose pin I bought from Etsy about 2 years ago.  It really brings out the raspberry tones in the room.

You can see the pom pom style balls handing above it and I love the way in finishes off the corner and balances the business of the hoops.

This frame holds pictures of Elsa taken when she was 9 months old.  The dress she's wearing in the middle photo is one that I myself wore when I was a baby.  I'm getting ready to take photos of Lydia wearing it for her 9 month pictures.
Under the window I added vinyl wall decals I purchased a couple of years ago, but have never used.  The original saying said "Bloom where you're planted", but I just used the "Bloom" for simplicity.

I'm very happy with the finished product.  Her room is so vibrant, but still calming and sweet.  My favorite room in the house right now ♥

I hope you like it too!
