Happy Tuesday (with a little bedroom update)

Today the kids and I are sprucing the house back up from the weekend.  Cleaning toilets, dusting, vacuuming and picking up the little details that get left behind during our more active days.  

I'm almost done deep cleaning the house.  My favorite rooms to clean are my bedroom and the living room.  They are the rooms we spend the most time in and having them be clean and fresh make me feel so peaceful.  I'll show you the living room decor in my next blog post.

I adjusted my bedroom decor just a bit.  I removed some of the pillows and stuck with a simple pallet of deep yellow and white with green accents.

This beautiful sheepskin was a Christmas gift from my sister.  The fun pillow is from Ikea.

This vintage style rack came from Antique Farmhouse a couple of months ago.  I love how it transformed my boring wall.

I moved my DIY lampshade into the bedroom and I love how it looks

 

The blue hanger was purchased at a sweet boutique in Anchorage.  I really love it for hanging my jewelry

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my haven.  It's a much favored place for our whole family. 

We have finally gotten some warmer temperatures (at least for this week), so our snow is finally melting off.   I hope the weather is as equally beautiful wherever you are.

Master Bedroom Reveal!

Finally my room is "done", though for us decorating crazies, done is a moving target it seems. ♥

Here is the before.  The room was painted, but I had no furniture in here yet and hadn't redone my nightstands yet.

I'm so happy with how my bedroom turned out.  I have been craving light after our long dark winter, and this room does not disappoint.  It has a feeling of peace and calm.  

Our little girl will be born in this room sometime in May, and it's finally ready to welcome her.

The master bath is through those french doors

 

I adore this chalkboard.  "I ♥ You" could be put in there too, among other sweet notes to my husband ♥

This "key" hook is so sweet (Joanne Fabrics - 60% off)

The necklace is an "amber teething necklace".  They work great for easing teething pain for babies.

The bedding is a combination of pieces I already had and some new stuff from Ebay.  I got the deep pocket robins eggs blue sheets for a great price on Ebay, as well as the Simply Shabby Chic quilt and sham set..  I've had the Simply Shabby Chic ruffled duvet cover and shams for years, but have always hated how the duvet fit inside it - This time I used it like a coverlet and it works SO much better.

The door to the right is a small walk in closet, which is due for a redo in the next 2 weeks or so

These drape holders are a set from Pottery Barn.  They were not cheap, but I had an in-store credit for just the right amount.  They make the room for me.  I didn't buy the fabric PB had to go with the set...I just happened to have a similar style fabric in my stash (10yds)

 I love the chippy-ness!

Our wedding photos are finally hung

I'm not a huge trinket or vignette type of a person (too much to dust!), but I have a small amount accessories

By the time I was halfway through taking these photos, little man had this all set up already.  

Just keeping it real!  Gotta move fast for decent pics around here.

SHABBY NEST- FRUGAL FRIDAY

French Bustle Lampshades

My Master Bedroom is almost done.  I'm just waiting on the husband to hang our wedding photos.  I've only had them sitting out for him since October, after all!  I declared this weekend that I was through waiting and he needed to hang them...only to find out we don't have the right size nails or screws, ugh.  So it will have to wait until tomorrow.

In the meantime, my last project for this room was redoing my cheapo lampshades.  I got the lamps at a local store for only $38 for both, which was a great deal, but the lampshades are ugly.  I didn't want to spend more $$ on them, so I decided on some sort of a slipcover.

My original plan was to add simple ruffles a' la Dear Lillie  - So I cut the strips, and sat down to sew at my sewing machine.  The one I haven't touched in over 2 years.  And it wouldn't work.  IT HATES ME.

Back to the drawing board (what is it with me and needing back up plans?)

After an hour of searching google, I found this link to House of Chic and Penoche - This was just what I was looking for.  Just a glue gun and scissors (I left out the sewing part, because needles hate me too)

I won't give you a tutorial since they did it for me.  I didn't use the needle and thread, but just glued some folds in place.  I started at the bottom of the shade since mine is bell shaped and I wanted to make sure I had enough fabric left over.  I used the fabric liner I've been utilizing for a bunch of my other projects, and it worked well.

I apologize for the dark pics, I just couldn't wait until tomorrow to post!

A little sneak peak of my room to tide you over until the reveal.  The shade on the left is done, the one on the right is still waiting. Doesn't the change make a huge difference?

 Here is the shade on the right.  This one turned out a little more messily gathered, which I prefer.  The reason is that I cut off the excess fabric beforehand, so I was more sure of my direction.  I keep this one on my side so the husband can have the less "fluffy" one.

 I LOVE how they turned out.  They remind me of a ball gown skirt that is gathered.  A bit like the french bustle my wedding gown had (no this is not me...I haven't change THAT much).  

I adore the look!
