Red Flag in August

Here in Alaska, Eielson holds Red Flag a couple of times a year.  Red Flag is a training exercise that is often international and it brings lots of cool planes into the area.

The kids and I headed down to the base and hung out for a couple of hours on 2 different days.  Our hope was to catch a glimpse of the B-2 Bomber we'd heard to be rumored to be part of the exercise.

We had a great time.  Beautiful weather and lots of loud airplanes.  We typically see a lot of F-16's, but this time there were also a lot of F-18's.

The planes heading down to line up for take-off.  Each day we watched around 25 planes take off.  We also caught some of them landing, but that's not as fun or loud as take-off.

B-2!

Isaac likes racing them as they take off (he's certain he wins sometimes)

The second day we brought a blanket and a picnic lunch

It's LOUD out there!

The kids like to play in the dirt and rocks when we're out there too

It's so much fun seeing the mastery of flight close up.  It never fails to amaze me.

My computer is down again, so it's in for repairs (the poor repair guy hinted that mine just might be the computer from hell).  I'm throwing this post up on my husbands notebook before he leaves for a week, so my blog doesn't stay post-less.

I'll hopefully have my laptop back by the weekend.

Have a wonderful week  :)
