Well, not quite a full rainbow, but some of the colors in one ♥
These glorious and happy chairs started out cracked and scratched and just plain blah...
I got them for $5 from a garage sale. Yes, $5 for all of them.
Isaac (6) did most of the sanding on these using my electric sander. I took photos of it, but I think they were some of the ones that fell victim to my hard drive fail. :(
Isaac and Elsa both helped me paint the yellow and red chairs
Isaac's most valuable job was keeping the mosquitoes from feasting on me.
These cool tools are battery powered bug zappers and they are awesome! We have about 6 of them and when the mosquitoes are thick, I make the kids keep me safe, haha.
It's also really nice to be able to clear those bloodsuckers out of the garage after they get in since the kids like to play in there.
The colors I chose were inspired by the kids' little flower pots
I love how they came out! The blue chair was painted with Martha Stewarts Plumage. The red is Valspars Grenadine. For the other two I opted for spray paint (way easier). I used RustOleum's American Accents line (Summer Squash and Leafy Green).
The blue chair resides in Elsa's room at her desk. The others are all lined up on the front porch...I'll be showing you that setup very soon.
Not too shabby for a set of $5 chairs. I would say that the whole project cost me about $13 since I had to buy the 2 cans of spray paint.
I didn't even need these, but they sure have brightened up my decor!

This post is so timely! I got 4 wooden chairs for $5 too! I got them over a year ago, and they've been sitting around looking ugly all this time. The only problem is the seats are vinyl and can't be removed but I'm not giving up. :) Your colors are so cheerful! You've given me the omph I need to get going on mine.
ReplyDeleteHi Miranda, I just realized that the only way I can sign in and comment is thru google which takes you to a blogger acct I never activated (I was experimenting). Not sure how I can comment with my name/url? househoneys.com
ReplyDeleteHow did you get 4 chairs for $5?????? JK, you don't need to answer. Just wanted to tell you that I found you on ODH's linky party and I love your chairs. My home in AZ has primary colors and each one of my dining room chairs is a different color like these. Love it!

ReplyDeleteThanks Miranda! I think I just fixed it. I set up that account in blogger months ago when I was just trying to see how easy it was compared to WP (no contest!), but never did anything with it and frankly, didn't even know until today that's where bloggers would be directed to! I'm such a rookie :(.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of different coloured chairs, they came out really well, cheap too gotta love that!
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome and well done on being featured at DIY dreamer. Cheers Karen www.madewithmytwohands.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLOVE them Miranda!!! I'm still looking for one more chair! Yours would be perfect! We went to many garage sales this weekend and didn't find one! They were all old beat up bar chairs... not quite what we want for Gabrielle's room.
