Elsa's Writing Desk

My daughter Elsa has been wanting a desk for a while now.

I snagged this queen anne style vanity on Craiglist for $20.  It was in rough shape with a broken drawer and missing mirror, but I didn't need the mirror and the drawer was an easy fix (it just needed a drawer guide - $1.29 for a 2 pack)

I painted it with homemade chalky paint in SW Dover White.  It only took 2 coats of paint.  Elsa didn't want it to look too rustic, so I hand distressed it with a medium grain sanding pad for a lightly distressed look.  It was topped with 2 coats of Minwax Polycrylic for durability.

I ♥ ♥ ♥ how it turned out!

The interior of the drawer was very damaged, so I painted it the same color as her desk chair.

This vanity turned writing desk works PERFECTLY in her room.  Elsa is so thrilled, she's been writing and coloring at it every day.

She painted the chair all by herself and we decided to leave it un-distressed for contrast

I got the photo board at Kohls.  The long metal rose I found at a garage sale last month.  It was bright gold and I sprayed it with a raspberry color paint.  What a stunning transformation!

(this one I had to use the flash on to show the color of the rose.  It washes out the wall color though)

Beautiful!  I love the curves of the legs against the modern lines of the chair.

Doing anything for my appreciative and decor loving daughter is such a fun blessing.  I'm just happy it turned out so well.
