Valentines Table Top

I have really been craving some light color around here.  The days are getting longer and brighter, but the cold and snow are sticking around (probably until April or May).  We had a week or so where it was above zero (that was so nice!), but now it's back down to -13.  I hear February is the coldest month for Fairbanks, but I hope they're wrong.  -13 isn't bad at all compared to when it gets -40, so I'm not wishing our January temps back again.

Though I'm not a big celebrator of Valentine's Day, I decided some pink and white colors would be just the thing to perk me up.

I looked around on Etsy until I found an affordable burlap runner for my table.  I'm sure I could have made it myself, but that would involve my re-aquainting myself with my sewing machine...something I'm not interested in doing at the moment ;)

I found this burlap beauty with unfinished edges and muslin ruffles in the middle.  I think it has the right amount of rustic and romantic to fit well in the house

Then I added in my "mercury glass" candle holders

I just love them!

I found this little heart dish at WalMart for $2.50 and filled it with valentine M&M's
(these are off limits to kids and husband, much to their chagrin)

I'm very happy with how it turned out.  I think I'll be adding in some fun green tones to prepare for Spring and Easter, but I'm liking the pink touch a lot right now.
What kind of things are you doing to celebrate Valentine's Day?

  1. Now I would have never thought of this touch, elegant, very nice. I cover a side table in the living room with red velvet and lay out a couple MA dolls in red and a few Valentine mementos along with some exchange Valentines I did with other blog ladies. I have a photo of it on my blog.

  2. I want some of those Valentine M&Ms. I haven't seen them in England. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled!

I can't believe that you have snow for so long. But I guess that your lives must be well-built around it. Are you able to do much skiing cross-country and that sort of thing?

  3. Hi Sarah, we aren't doing much of anything as far as enjoying the winter this year. The money isn't there for buying gear since we're still working on little things around the house. Maybe next year we'll enjoy the winter a little more, though the temps keep me from being super optimistic about that ;) A lot of people use snow machines and 4 wheelers for fun around here, so maybe someday we can get a couple of those to run around on...now that sounds like fun!
