And the stockings were hung by the chimney with care (or not)...

I've been trying to figure out where to hang our stockings.  I don't have a mantle and I was thinking of making one, but felt overwhelmed at the thought.

So I decided to just screw it and nailed in some picture hooks.  I didn't measure, I just eyeballed it, so they're not perfect, but that's okay.  The kids are thrilled.  It makes the corner look nice.  We're good I think!

I bought these stockings a couple of years ago from Target at their after Christmas sales (75% off!).  I like the plaid a lot.  I decided to personalize them by using iron on velvet lettering I got at Crafters Warehouse.
When I got them that long ago, I bought 2 extra stockings for our future babies. Here is my youngest's name.  I still have another stocking waiting for this next little one.  I love it when a plan comes together!

I had bought a tree skirt that matched, but it was so tiny, I wanted a bigger skirt.  So we made a new skirt with a faux wool type material and lining.  Then we cut up the old skirt and made patches out of it
I used more of the lettering here to personalize it for us
I transferred the buttons and ties from the old one too for some pizzaz
Here is the rearranged living room.  I had to move that white table away from the tree so I had room for presents!  I think the stockings help finish off the room.
The tree is ready for presents!  And I'm ready for Christmas

  1. I {LOVE} it that you bought extras for future babies! I totally do that too and my friends laugh at me!!

Okay, your eye-balling (I LOVE that phrase, we don't say it in England....but I do now!!) and my eye-balling are VERY different!! Your stockings are perfectly lined up - mine would be lucky to be in the same room if I just estimated!!

  2. These look great Miranda. When you get tile up behind that stove you frame it with wood trim and you can put the socks on that.

  3. Perfect solution! BTW, I love the names of your children. So cute and unique. And until you said you wanted a larger tree skirt I never thought about it...I've never had one because I figured they just get covered with presents but if (like you want) you have a REALLY big one a pretty edge WOULD still show.....just thinking out loud. ~Lindy
