A sweet lady blogger and one of the women I consider my friend, Sarah at Modern Country Style, is holding a "Define your Blog" challenge.
I've been trying to think about what really defines my blog and this is really a tough one. I started the blog as a place to keep my inspirations and show off my finds on my journey to make a new life in Alaska.
It's become a little more work than I thought, but to keep true to my mission....my goal for Blooming in Alaska is to show that no matter where you live, you can make your house a home.
I hope that my blog content shows that passion. I have lived in temporary housing, rental homes, military housing, a trailer house, and a custom built beautiful farmhouse. We moved here to this house without ever having seen it in person. Stability and permanency is very hard to find, so it's important to be flexible and to make the best of what life gives you.
My style is relatively traditional, but I'm also very practical. While my style has evolved over the years, the one thing that hasn't changed is that I love to to be creative in using "found" things.
Craigslist is my best buddy. Affordability is key. Find and use what you can.
Paint is miraculous
Think outside the box when decorating. I don't even have a lot of skill in fixing things up, but creativity can buy a lot of style. So that about sums it up for me. I hope I can inspire and motivate you to nurture your home and to make it a haven...no matter what your circumstances, funds or skill.
Hi Miranda!
ReplyDeleteI guess, the old saying, "Grow where you are planted" fits. We've moved around a bit in our day, as well. We lived in a basement apartment early on in our marriage. I like your take and how you've created such a beautiful home. Love the chair and your bedroom!
I'm your newest follower! I'm happy I found your blog. And, what would we do without our good friend paint? :)
Take care!
Michelle
Hi Miranda! Just found you through Sarah's party. I admire your ability to define your style when you move around so much. I move a lot too and it has really hindered me these past few months since I know I'm about to move again. Seems what works in one house doesn't always work in the next so I'm hesitant to do invest in anything.
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower and would be delighted to have you follow me back. You have a lovely blog! Those two nightstands are beautiful.
Have a great day!
Tammy
Hi Miranda,
ReplyDeletevisiting from Sarah's, and just wanted to compliment you on your lovely home!
Have a good day,
Maureen
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am joining Sarah's lovely party from my vintage apartment in Chicago. So glad you joined, too.
Fondly,
Glenda

ps. I so believe that you can create a home anywhere. Thanks to your family for your service to our country.
Hi Miranda,
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely style, girl, very pretty. I admire you for embracing the positive when you move around so much. I will have to come back and see more of your lovely blog.
Hugs, Cindy
I am totally coveting that sign...Remember the days blessings. I LOVE it. Okay, coveting is probably not entirely in the spirit of the sign, is it? But coveting I am!!!
ReplyDeleteHave you thought any more about merging your two blogs together any further? I know that's something you mentioned a while back?
I am always astounded at how much creativity and optimism your blog exudes.
Plus you know I ADORE your bedroom!!!

I think this is the first blog from Alaska I have ever seen. Love your pillow collection and your bedroom. Looks like it's from a magazine.
ReplyDeleteI love what I am seeing over here, and am following!
ReplyDeleteWorded just perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI guess I didn't know you had to move around so much!
I HATE moving, I think I'd be very cranky!!!
Thanks for visiting Taylor Made Home. I'm so glad I stopped by your blog because you have such a talent for decorating with found items. I also checked out your other blog. Your family is beautiful and Alaska looks...COLD! (Coming from a girl who lives in Alabama...)
ReplyDeleteAs for keeping up with two blogs or combining them into one, it's totally up to you. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. Right now I'm just focusing on anything related to homemaking/nesting. I may focus more on organizing/decorating in the future, but I like the freedom to talk about whatever.
Sorry so long! :)
I keep coming across your blog and finally became a follower. You are so creative! Thank you for sharing your ideas :)

Your bedroom is gorgeous, Miranda! I love all of the pillows, and the swag treatment over your bed. How romantic! You have inspired me to know that I, too can make my new temporary house a home. Your encouragement means so much to me!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your bedroom Miranda!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to go check out the party :)
XOXO
