Joyeux Noel...a little early

I've been wanting a long stocking for my door in place of a wreath.  THIS Etsy listing is gorgeous, but I didn't have the extra money to spend right now on pretties.  So I made my own.
I won't be winning any awards with this one, but I'm still loving it's rustic and primitive feel.

To make it, I just did a rough drawing with a pencil on top of the back liner I used.  I cut the liner and the burlap out together and then just pinned it with safety pins along the sides and bottom. (it only took about 10 minutes, just in case you can't tell, haha)
I used a stencil and black permanent marker to do the lettering.  It's not as pretty as paint would have been, but it was a lot faster.

Then I added a little padding to the inside and placed some leaves and berries in the top

These pics were taken quick.  It was -42 out there this day.  You can see how the cold air rushes inside the warm house in a white fog

 Brrrrr.......
About 20 minutes after taking these photos, I discovered these guys out in my yard eating leftover garden cabbage....SO much fun!

  1. Since my grandson is there I'm well aware of the temps you are having. We here in Homer are experiencing some cold too we don't usually have this early in the year.
I like your door decorations it came out very nice and I bet it's frozen solid too.

It looks festive on your door and for the time invested, you've gotta be happy with that, since none of us have enough time! I would love to have you come to my Rock 'N Share blog party and share this! http://theshadyporch.blogspot.com
