Lovely Christmas

We had a fantastic Christmas.  Here in Alaska, we don't know anyone and have no family around, so there were no obligations (awesome).  I made sure the house was clean and organized and ready for just kicking back.  Dinner was fabulous and relatively simple.

Prime Rib
Au Gratin Potatoes
Broccoli Salad
Yorkshire Pudding

It was the first time I've made prime rib and it came out great.

I could have done without the yorkshire puddings, though maybe I did something wrong.

The kids ended up loving everything they received, including the new Wii.  We had a great time just hanging out as a family and enjoying each other and the new things.

I am so thankful for our comfy home and my loving family.  On a really optimistic note, we are thru the winter solstice, so our days start getting longer now.  No more 3hr 45min of daylight that ends at 2:30, though the sunsets in the middle of the day are pretty.

I hear it will be getting colder through January and February.  That will be interesting since our temps have been between -25 and -42 this whole month with very few warmer days.  Yikes!

  1. Oooh, Miranda, that sounds like a wonderful Christmas. They're my favourite sort - where the family batten down the hatches and just enjoys being together.

Your photo of the sunset through the trees is beautiful.

  2. Your Christmas sounds wonderful. We had a choice between ham and prime rib roast and my daughter picked the ham. I still have the roast in the freezer to cook at sometime.
I've been buying stuff for my grandson who will go to college in August 2011 in Fairbanks. My daughter in Kodiak will move him up there and we may go along, if we do I'll let you know, maybe we can swing by and meet you. I would be borrowing a camper and bringing our two Weims.

  3. That is my favorite part of Christmas...just hanging out as a family on Christmad day playing together. We do a lot as a family throughout that year, but there's something about Christmas Day. Maybe it is the fact that we hang out together so closely all day....just playing and cooking. I so understand!
