Striking a balance

I was in at Walmart (only store around here in Oklahoma) today looking at the decorating magazines.  I adore looking at homes online, especially blogs, but there is just something about holding a book or magazine in your hands that gives me even more joy in the decorating process.

There were quite a magazines there, but I struggled to find ones I'd actually like to read.  There were sparse and ubery modern OR very busy, overdone, cluttered photos.  Neither of these appeal to me at all.  I want my home to be calm and soothing, but also warm and cozy.  Decorating is a careful balance.  I realize there is something out there for everyone and all of us like different things, but for me, I really dislike rooms that are so distracting I don't know where to stop my eyes.  There's no focal point.  And dusting all that "stuff"?  You'd never be able to keep your home clean!  That's a huge issue for me.  I have to have a clean house and dust drives me batty.

Some of the magazines I like that to look at are:
Country Living
This Old House
Better Homes and Gardens

I have a couple more, but I remember the names right now.  Those 3 are my favorites.

What magazines do you love?  Do you have the same problem I do trying to find new good ones?

  1. I love Romantic Homes and Romantic Country.
Did you get a copy of the Flea Market Style mag? That was FABULOUS!

Thanks so much for your comments on my house post, you made some great points. :-)

  2. Thanks for commenting. I did get a copy of the flea market style and I agree it had some great homes in it. In fact, one of the homes they profiled is a farm I've been to many times for flea markets when I lived in Washington (Barn House). That was fun to read from a personal perspective.

I'm looking forward to following your journey buying a new house!
